__TOC__
Note: For most statewide offices, for the state legislature, and for Congress, starting in 2012 California has used a system (known as "Top Two" or "Proposition 14") in which all candidates for an office run against each other in the primary. Only the two candidates who receive the most votes in the primary, regardless of party affiliation, are listed on the ballot in November. As a consequence, although there have been Libertarians who ran for these offices in those years, their names only rarely have appeared on the November ballot. (This is not only true for Libertarians - in many districts where Democrats are dominant, Republicans are never listed on the November ballot either, and vice versa.) In cases where a Libertarian did run but was excluded from the November ballot under this system, the results shown are from the primary. These results are indicated with a pink background.
