Bill Lavern Kalles (July 17, 1954–June 29, 2025) was a Libertarian Party activist and leader from Mississippi. He served as Vice-Chair and Treasurer of the Libertarian Party of Mississippi and was a delegate to the 2018 Libertarian National Convention.

Biography

Early Life and Career

Kalles was born on July 17, 1954, in Sedro Woolley, Washington, and spent much of his life in various parts of Washington state. He attended Skagit Valley College and the University of Washington, where he earned a degree in Accounting. In his youth, he played drums in a country-rock band with his father, touring the western United States, and was also self-taught on guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, and bass guitar.

Libertarian Party

Kalles was a lifelong member of the Libertarian Party. He relocated to Mississippi in 2009 and became active in the Libertarian Party of Mississippi, serving as Vice-Chair and working to grow the state party. He served as Treasurer of the Libertarian Party of Mississippi from 2021 to 2023. He was seated as a delegate with the Mississippi delegation at the 2018 Libertarian National Convention.

Final Years

In addition to his political involvement, Kalles was a member of the Civitan Club and the Optimist Club in Senatobia, Mississippi. He passed away on June 29, 2025, at his home in Senatobia after a long battle with cancer, at the age of 70.[1]
