The [[Utah Libertarian Party]] achieved ballot access for the 1976 elections and fielded two candidates, [[Roger MacBride]] for President and [[Steve Trotter]] for US Senate, opposing [[Orrin Hatch]].
After losing ballot access in 2006 as a result of failing to acquire the required 2% vote, the [[Libertarian Party of Utah]] regained ballot access in February 2008 as a result of acquiring the required number of signatures. [http://www.lputah.org/node/8196] The party consequently received over 125,000 votes in 2008, compared to 118,000 in 2004.

The Utah Libertarian Party ("UTLP" in party bylaws[1]) is the Utah affiliate of the Libertarian Party.

The party was formed in 1971, under the leadership of its first Chair, Karl Bray, and ran write-in candidates as early as 1972.
