Russell Means was a Oglala Lakota activist, author, and politician from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

In 1987, Means ran for President of the United States, seeking the Libertarian Party nomination in the 1988 election. He would finish as the runner up, losing the nomination to Ron Paul.
