Casey Wayne Watkins (January 8, 1982–September 29, 2025) was a Florida entrepreneur, community leader, and Libertarian activist from Monroe County, Florida. He briefly served as the founding Chair of the Libertarian Party of Monroe County, an affiliate in formation of the Libertarian Party of Florida (LPF).
Early Life and Career
Watkins lived in Islamorada, in the Florida Keys, where he worked in the local food and beverage industry and was active in numerous community organizations. Known for his warmth, humor, and optimism, he was admired for his generosity and his ability to bring people together.
Political Involvement
In 2022, Watkins ran for public office as a candidate for **Village Council Seat 4** in the Village of Islamorada, Village of Islands.
He registered with the Libertarian Party of Florida in 2025 and quickly emerged as a leader within the Monroe County liberty movement. On September 14, 2025, he was elected Chair during the organizational meeting to affiliate the Libertarian Party of Monroe County. Marc Golob, the LPF Region 14 Representative, hosted the event alongside Steven Nekhaila, then Chair of the Libertarian National Committee (LNC). Other elected officers included Mike Kane (Vice Chair) and Danielle Davis (Secretary-Treasurer).
The gathering, held in Islamorada, drew Libertarians from across the Keys and celebrated the party’s growth in South Florida.
Passing and Legacy
Just two weeks after the Monroe County organizational meeting, Watkins passed away unexpectedly at the age of 43 following a stroke. His loss deeply affected the local Libertarian community.
Friends and colleagues remembered him as a man of *unstoppable optimism and compassion*, embodying the principle that “true freedom begins with helping others live their best lives.” His dream was to build a strong Libertarian presence in the Florida Keys, grounded in freedom, responsibility, and mutual respect.
Members of the Libertarian Party of Florida and residents of Monroe County have since encouraged local Libertarians to continue his work and formally complete the county’s affiliation process.
A GoFundMe campaign was created to support his partner, **Megan Scallan**, after his passing.
