The 2026 Convention of the Libertarian Party of California was held 13-15 February (Presidents Day weekend), at the Handlery Hotel, in San Diego.
Business
Party business was conducted Saturday and Sunday.
Bylaws
The report of the Bylaws Committee was presented Saturday morning. Seven of the ten proposals were adopted, some with amendments.
- Proposal 1, regarding budget ratification, was approved.
- Proposal 2, regarding appeal of Program planks, was approved.
- Proposal 3, regarding reinstatement of resigned members, was approved.
- Proposal 4, establishing rules for executive sessions, was approved with deletion of a paragraph about recording.
- Proposal 5, regarding membership of the Financial Standards Committee, was approved with an expansion of the set of people not eligible to serve.
- Proposal 6, to allow for state Platform planks, was not approved.
- Proposal 7, to have convention delegates selected by county organizations, was not approved.
- Proposal 8, to eliminate the requirement that the EC have at least one in-person meeting per year, was not approved.
- Proposal 9, regarding suspension of EC members, was adopted.
- Proposal 10, eliminating the Operations Committee, was approved.
Consideration of Bylaws amendments continued Saturday afternoon with proposals submitted by individual members with advance notice.
A set of eight proposals from Aaron Starr to replace the at-large positions on the EC with officers having specific responsibilities was withdrawn after the first one was not adopted.
A proposal from Aaron Starr to have the Bylaws Committee be appointed and report only every other year was adopted with amendments.
A proposal from Mimi Robson to remove the provision that convention debate cannot be closed until one person has had a chance to speak on each side was not adopted.
In addition, on Sunday the convention rules were amended to allow for a list of national delegates to be elected by voice vote if there are fewer nominees than positions available.
Elections
Mike Van Roy was elected without opposition as Treasurer, to complete the term vacated by the resignation of the Treasurer elected at the 2025 convention.

- "Resolved, we, the members of the Libertarian Party of California, uphold the Second Amendment and support constitutional carry in California."
The following resolution was adopted on Sunday:
- "The Libertarian Party of California affirms that taxation is theft; The LPC affirms the principle of private property; The LPC opposes the movement to drive businesses out of California; Therefore the Libertarian Party of California condemns the so-called billionaire tax appearing on the November ballot as evil."
