Joe Paschal is a business owner and a construction contractor from Montana.

In January 2018, Paschal announced his candidacy for Vice-Chair of the Libertarian National Committee.. On March 26 2018, Paschal withdrew his LNC Vice-Chair campaign and ran for Region 1 Representative.. At the end of May 2018, he announced his bid for LNC Chair.

Paschal ran for the LP Montana’s nomination for House of Representatives in a special election in 2017, but was narrowly defeated by Mark Wicks.

Platform

Mentoring young Libertarian’s is the focus of Paschal’s Vice Chairman platform. As VC, he would use his “bottom-up philosophy” to work with local affiliates and mentor candidates who want to advance liberty.

He is also welcoming of disenfranchised voters and would enact a mentoring program for new members “because we libertarians have a way of scaring newbies off because they don’t understand our philosophies.”

Campaign funding is also a focus of Paschal and he would work to start a PAC to help raise funds for state and local candidates who are having trouble acquiring funds for their campaigns.

"I was raised in a rural community in southern Virginia in a middle-class household. My mom was a homemaker and my stepdad owned an auto-body shop.

My mom was a Goldwater Republican that came from a strong military family. My stepdad was never a fan of any politician or the federal government and refused to vote. I found at an early age that taxation is theft when I worked on a farm at 14 and saw my first check. I was never a fan of public school so I missed a lot until age sixteen when my Father died, then I just didn’t go. That didn’t end my education, matter of fact I would come to realize later in life that is where my education actually began. My stepdad was not a bad man but he was also not a very nurturing man either. His idea of my learning was to read, read and then read some more.

So in my vast amount of reading I did things like the Magna Carta, Kentucky Accords Federalist Papers, Constitution and the Bible. In those readings I learned that all humans have 2 things in common: 1) they want to be free and 2) They like to kill other people if they don’t agree with their idea of freedom. Human nature is both beautiful and ugly at the same time.

That continued until I was 18 when I tried to join the military and was rejected because of a High-Frequency hearing loss. So I decided to go into construction. I worked my way to construction manager where I am now. I have worked in 5 other countries including Afghanistan as a contractor ( even more education).

When my mother died in 2006, my wife and 3 children followed me from construction site to construction site like gypsies until we settled in Montana where we have a small ranch. I still travel but my wife tuffs it out and stays home with our 2 youngest children continuing to homeschool them. Our oldest is building his own career in construction as well. Anything else you would like to know about me just ask. I’m an open book kind of guy.

My platform is simple: I want to work with local LP leadership to help identify and mentor candidates that want to further the liberty movement. I have a bottom-up philosophy. If we work at the local level we can have a bigger impact. I want to use the parties influence to help local candidates by bringing in prominent people that support our cause such as Jesse Ventura, Dennis Quaid, and others when possible. I want to welcome people that have become disenfranchised from their political parties but I want them to be mentored because we libertarians have a way of scaring newbies off because they don’t understand our philosophies. I would work on starting a sponsoring program for newcomers.

I also would like to work with donors to build a PAC for state and local level candidates. The party has always had problems helping these folks raise money.

The rest I will let the people of the party tell me what they need. In the end all party leadership should be is a resource for the members.
