Aaron Russo is an American music producer and political figure. During his career in the entertainment industry, Russo was manager for Bette Midler and The Manhattan Transfer, and the producer of the film Trading Places. Russo ran for governor of Nevada as a Republican, in 1998, losing in the party primary with 26% of the vote against three opponents. Russo subsequently split from the Republican Party. He planned to run for governor again in 2002 as a Libertarian, but he was temporarily sidelined by cancer. In January of 2004, he declared his candidacy for the Libertarian Party's presidential nomination and is considered one of the main candidates for the nomination.
