:Occasionally there are special elections to replace a Senator other than in the regularly scheduled 6 year cycle. This can show up as either as an election when there should not have been one, such as Hawaii in 1990 and 2014 or Delaware in 2010, or as two elections in the same year, such as California in 1992 and New York in 2010. If the LP did not compete in a special election, it was ignored. If there was a special election in what would normally be an off year in which the LP fielded no candidate, it is marked as "no election." | |||
