On January 29 2018, Dunn announced his candidacy for the US Senate, seeking the Libertarian Party nomination.[4] Dunn secured the nomination on June 5, 2018.[5]

On July 29 2018, Dunn withdrew from the race and encouraged Gary Johnson to enter the race. [6]
