Kate O'Brien is a civil/structural engineer from Simi Valley, California. She became a member of the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District Board of Directors in 2000. In 2007, O'Brien served as Chair of the park district. O'Brien currently serves as Vice Chair of the park district and is a member of the Advance Planning, Finance, and Historical committees as well as the Ad Hoc Special Needs committee.

O'Brien was originally a music major (piano) at San Francisco State University. She graduated from Cogswell Polytechnical College with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering technology.
