Barry Evan Short (b. August 19, 1955, Pomona CA) is a Libertarian political activist from Cedar City, UT. In April 2017 he was elected to a two-year term as Vice Chair of the Libertarian Party of Utah. He had previously served as Communications Director of the state party on an intermittent basis.

Electoral history

2010: Candidate for Utah House of Representatives, District 72. Short received 1450 votes, 16.4%, to incumbent Evan Vickers' 7356.

2012: Candidate for Utah House of Representatives, District 72. Short received 1786 votes, 14.6%.

2014: Candidate for Utah House of Representatives, District 72. Short received 990 votes, 15.8%, to incumbent John Westwood's 5210 and independent write-in Linda Lou Allen's 50.

2016: Candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Utah, on a ticket with candidate for Governor Brian E. Kamerath. The ticket received 34,827 votes, 3.1% of the total cast, the highest percentage and gross vote for a Libertarian ticket in Utah. By exceeding the 2% threshold this assured the UTLP ballot access through the 2020 election cycle.

Other activities

On August 6, 2016, Short was the opening speaker for the Gary Johnson rally at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He was also the opening speaker at the Gary Johnson rally in Murray, Utah on November 1.
