Christopher B. "Chris" Garvey (May 29, 1950 - July 22, 2023) was an American attorney, politician, and U.S. Merchant Marine Officer. He gained recognition as a Libertarian candidate and committee member, known for his various political campaigns in New York State.
Education
Garvey pursued higher education at Columbia University, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He furthered his academic journey by attending the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he obtained a law degree.
Legal and Political Career
Garvey embarked on a legal career that included notable positions. He worked as a Patent Attorney for Nolte, Nolte & Hunter in Roslyn, NY. His legal expertise was primarily focused on patent and trademark applications, with his work often taking him to federal and state courts.
Throughout his life, Garvey was actively involved in the political arena. He ran as a Libertarian candidate in several high-profile elections, demonstrating his commitment to libertarian principles. In 1998, he ran for the position of Governor of New York State, advocating for his party's platform. Subsequently, he pursued the position of Attorney General of New York, running on the Libertarian line in both 2006 and 2018. In 2009, he also contested the election for Suffolk County District Attorney.
Garvey's political engagement extended beyond his gubernatorial and attorney general campaigns. He also made a bid as a Conservative candidate for Supreme Court Justice in Bronx, NY from 2001 to 2003.
