Presently in its ninth edition, Libertarianism in One Lesson was first written by David Bergland as part of his 1984 presidential campaign and has often been given to to prospective party members and voters.
The first and second editions were printed in a magazine format.
The third edition was the first paperback edition.
In 1988 Bergland gave permission for a Polish translation to an underground publisher in then-Communist Poland.
The fifth edition was the first major revision, taking into account changes in the post-Cold War world.
The sixth edition was 126 pages.
The ninth edition was revised for 2005 and is 192 pages.
