As Libertarians try to draw more members in to their community, they exercise their freedom of speech and freedom to express their opinions, and in doing so, inevitably this results in offending some people who then will never consider joining the Libertarian Party.
Here is an example: Cris Ericson, Marijuana party affiliation candidate http://www.times.com/ref/elections2004/2004VT.html came in 3rd for two offices in 2004, see Cris Ericson, MJP and she made it common knowledge that she had moved from Los Angeles,CA to Vermont and expected in the future to return to Los Angeles, CA and use the knowledge and experience she gained campaigning in Vermont to succeed as a political candidate in California. A Libertarian from Vermont e-mailed her and stated in most negative terms that he thought she was a terrible person for even thinking of such a plan. Now, if you leave your state to go to a University in another state, and then return to your home state, you are applauded for going away and getting a broader view of the world. So, why would a Libertarian think that it is terrible for a person to go to another state and gain experience campaigning, and then return to the state they came from and use their broadened experience? The abusive and insulting language in the e-mail the Libertarian sent Cris Ericson made her think that Libertarians are ignorant and small minded.
