Robert Murphy was Chair of the Oklahoma Libertarian Party during the early 1980s leading up to the David Bergland 1984 presidential campaign. In 1980, 1984, and 2016 he ran for US Senate in Oklahoma.
In 1990 he was a candidate for Virginia's 8th House of Representatives and he has been a candidate for US House in three different districts in Oklahoma, CD4 in 1996, CD3 in 2002, and CD5 in 2000, 2012, and 2014.
