Robert Murphy was Chair of the Oklahoma Libertarian Party during the early 1980s leading up to the David Bergland 1984 presidential campaign. Under his leadership, Campus Libertarians flourished at the University of Oklahoma.
In 1980 and 1984 he ran for US Senate in Oklahoma.
In 1990 he was a candidate for Virginia's 8th House of Representatives.
