The Libertarian Party of Chicago is an affiliate of the Libertarian Party of Illinois, one of several chapters serving Chicago and Cook County alongside the Northwest Cook Libertarians and North Shore Cook County Libertarian Party, as well as the broader Cook County Libertarian Central Committee which was created to comply with state laws regarding established political parties.
Cook County gained established party status in 2022 and will maintain that status until at least 2026.
Christopher Laurent became the first Libertarian Party member elected into Chicago government in 2022.
