On June 3rd, 2015, Waymire announced her campaign for President of the United States, seeking the Libertarian Party nomination.[2] On April 13th of 2016, Waymire withdrew from the race and endorsed John McAfee. She had publicly expressed interest in running for President in 2020.[3]. Joy was well-known for her gentle and kind manner and affectionately called "Miss Joy."

On February 23, 2018, Waymire passed away at her ranch in California.[4]
