Hardy Macia is a past chair of the Vermont Libertarian Party. His political experience includes being elected to Selectboard, Justice of the Peace, and Town Grand Juror. He cofounded the Vermont Chapter of National Youth Rights Association, and cofounded the Vermont Chapter of NORML. He also served on the board of Citizens for Property Rights. In 2006 he was elected by his peers to serve as the regional representative for New England, New York and New Jersey to the Libertarian National Committee (LNC), and also served on the LNC's Executive Committee. He was active in NFIB, Grand Isle Chamber of Commerce, Grand Isle broadband coalition, and the Creative Economy Committee.
