Often sharply criticized as a do-nothing free market president, most libertarians who have gotten access to unbiased history have learned that he was nothing of the sort. He paved the way for FDR with massively interventionist and centralized policies -- which FDR actually campaigned against -- with the same disastrous results his widely hailed successor achieved when he decided to out-Hoover Hoover.
