Rose Wilder Lane, daughter of Laura Ingalls Wilder, was an author best known among libertarians for her 1943 book The Discovery of Freedom. She also is credited with first coining the term, "libertarian movement" in its modern usage, and for mentoring Roger MacBride who later ran for President on the Libertarian Party ticket.
Outside of the libertarian movement she was best known for a series of novels such as Free Land and Young Pioneers. These were both stores of pioneers struggling to make a living off the land in the American Midwest, based on her own family's experiences where she grew up in Dakota Territory.
