A management consultant, Dixon was elected to the position of national chair on the first ballot by delegates to the [[2004 Libertarian National Convention]] in [[Atlanta]]. Dixon had previously served as a member of the [[Libertarian National Committee]] (as an at-large member and as a regional representative) since [[1998]], and as chair of the [[Illinois Libertarian Party]] from [[1993]] to [[1994]].
