R. Lee Wrights is the present and a former Vice-Chair of the National Libertarian Party and was a frontrunning contender for the nomination for US President for the 2012 election season.
Early Life
Lee Wrights was born on June 8, 1958 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After graduating from high school, Wrights joined the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1981. He also earned a degree from Willmar College where his major was journalism and history.
National LP
Wrights has served as the Vice-Chair and as an at-large member of the National Libertarian Party. He has also served on Platform Committee for four years and currently serves on the Judicial Committee.
North Carolina LP
When Lee lived in North Carolina, he served as the Vice-Chair of the North Carolina LP for seven years and he also served as the ballot access expert for two years. Wrights served as the Chairman and the Secretary of the Forsyth County LP.
Texas LP
Now living in Texas, Lee Wrights is the Chairman of the Burnet County Libertarian Committee and is the current Senate District 24 Representative to the Texas State Libertarian Executive Committee.
Campaign Manager
In Mary Ruwart's 2008 Presidential Campaign, Lee Wrights served as campaign manager. The campaign came to an end when Ruwart lost to Bob Barr on the sixth round of balloting. In 2010, Lee Wrights also managed Ruwart's campaign for Texas State Comptroller in which she received 10% of the vote against a Republican and Democrat.
Presidential Campaign
R. Lee Wrights formed a Presidential Exploratory Committee in early 2011 to accept donations and allow him to run for the nomination for President from the Libertarian Party.
