John Paff is a Libertarian activist who originally hails from New Jersey and is now retired in Florida. He serves as the Region 12 Representative for the Florida counties of Lee, Collier, and Charlotte and leads the New Jersey Libertarian Party's Preempted Ordinance Repeal and Open Government Advocacy Projects.
Paff is a noted government transparency advocate in New Jersey and has won several open records lawsuits, including the New Jersey Supreme Court's 2017 unanimous decision in Paff v. Galloway Township, 229 N.J. 340, 162 A.3d 1046. This ruling determined that electronic fields of information, covering "sender," "recipient," "date," and "subject" in emails sent by government officials, were considered government records under New Jersey's Open Public Records Act (OPRA). Paff also ran for New Jersey's lieutenant governor on the Libertarian Party ticket in 2009.
He serves as an advisor for Mike ter Maat's campaign for President of the United States in 2024.
Paff is originally from Upper Deerfield Township, New Jersey, and holds an economics degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick. He dedicated twenty-two years as a volunteer firefighter and is married with two adult children.
