This is a list of Libertarians who held public office in 1971. The 1971 general election predates the founding of the Libertarian Party. Michael and Paul Gilson were founding members of a New York Libertarian Party that predated the official founding of the national party, as well as the need to call it the Free Libertarian Party.  They were elected in November of 1971.
