On March 25, 2018 Doane was nominated to run for Colorado Treasurer and for Colorado's 1st District in the US House of Representatives. Doane accepted the nomination for Colorado's 1st District in the US House.[1]

On January 14, Doane announced his candidacy for Clerk & Recorder of Denver, Colorado. [3] On March 3 2019, Doane withdrew from the race.[4]
